Fenomena fear of missing out (fomo) dalam perspektif ilmu komunikasi: sebuah systematic literature review

Abstract
Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) telah berkembang menjadi fenomena komunikasi digital yang signifikan dalam ekosistem media sosial kontemporer. Artikel ini menyajikan hasil systematic literature review (SLR) terhadap penelitian FoMO dari perspektif ilmu komunikasi dengan menggunakan pedoman PRISMA 2020 dan kerangka PICO. Penelitian bertujuan untuk menjawab dua pertanyaan utama: (1) faktor-faktor komunikasi apa yang memengaruhi munculnya FoMO pada pengguna media sosial, dan (2) bagaimana dampak FoMO terhadap perilaku komunikasi pengguna media sosial. Sebanyak 42 artikel yang dipublikasikan antara tahun 2022 hingga 2026 dianalisis melalui proses sintesis tematik yang sistematis. Hasil sintesis menunjukkan bahwa FoMO pada pengguna media sosial dipengaruhi oleh lima faktor komunikasi utama, yaitu intensitas penggunaan media sosial, social comparison dan self-presentation, need to belong dan fear of social exclusion, communication visibility dan social media exposure, serta engagement-oriented communication. Adapun dampak FoMO terhadap perilaku komunikasi mencakup peningkatan social media engagement, excessive checking behavior, perubahan pola self-disclosure dan online participation, problematic social media use, social media addiction dan dependency, serta transformasi pola komunikasi sosial secara menyeluruh. Temuan ini diinterpretasikan melalui lens teoretis Uses and Gratifications Theory, Social Comparison Theory, Media Dependency Theory, dan Computer Mediated Communication (CMC). Artikel ini berkontribusi pada pengembangan model konseptual yang menghubungkan faktor-faktor komunikasi, FoMO, dan transformasi perilaku komunikasi digital. Implikasi praktis dan agenda penelitian masa depan turut dirumuskan untuk mendorong literasi digital yang lebih sehat.
